A new library service for a new city following the boundary expansion of Cork City

On 31 May 2019, as part of the boundary revision of the City of Cork, three former Cork County Library branch libraries transferred to the Cork City Library service.

FAQs for our new members

Q. Which branches were affected by the boundary extension?

A. Ballincollig, Blarney and Glanmire Libraries became part of Cork City Libraries service.

Q. What about the Library Headquarters on Carrigrohane Road?

A. The Library Headquarters on Carrigrohane Road remains part of Cork County Library service.

Q. How do I contact my branch?

A. The telephone numbers for the three branches are:

Q. Will I get a new library card?

A. Staff in Ballincollig, Blarney and Glanmire libraries will swap your old library card for a new Cork City Libraries library specially designed for our new expanded library service.

Please be advised that changing your library card will affect your online access to BorrowBox and other online services. In the case of BorrowBox you will need to delete the app and re-register. You will lose your ebooks and holds. To re-register, choose Cork City Council Libraries, enter the barcode from your library card and your PIN.

Q. I had books on hold, will they still come to the right place?

A.  If you have concerns about your holds, talk to your local librarian. He or she will help you. 

If you place holds online through your library account please make sure to select the following library locations for delivery:

  • Cork City Ballincollig
  • Cork City Blarney
  • Cork City Glanmire 

Q. What about my BorrowBox account and the other online services?

A. There will be disruptions. Customers with a BorrowBox account will have to re-register, choosing your new library location, you will lose any eBooks or eAudiobooks on your account. We are very sorry about this, but it is beyond our control. To re-register choose Cork City Council Libraries, enter the barcode from your library card and your PIN.  Customers with an RBDigital account or a Universal Class account should not be affected. Staff at your local library will guide you through this.

Q. I use the County Library app. Will I still be able to use this?

No, you will need to download and install the Cork City Libraries app from the App Store or Google Play. 

Q. Will there be any new charges or fines?

A. There are no fines for overdue library books. There are changes to some charges. Please visit our Charges page for information.

Q. I am not a member, can I still use the Internet?

A. Yes, from 31 May 2019, use of the Internet in our libraries is open to all, not just members.

Q. I use a County Library mobile stop in the transfer area. Will that be affected?

A. No, there is an agreement in place between between Cork City Council and Cork County Council, that Cork County Council will continue the mobile service for stops in the transfer area.
